1. Moisturize your hair: Black hair is naturally dry and prone to breakage, and postpartum hair loss can exacerbate this issue. Moisturize your hair regularly with a leave-in conditioner or hair oil to help prevent breakage and promote healthy hair growth.
2. Avoid hairstyles that pull on your hair: Braids, weaves, and other styles that place tension on your scalp can make postpartum hair loss worse. Instead, opt for looser, more gentle hair styles that won't pull on your hair.
3. Use a gentle shampoo: Black hair can be sensitive to harsh shampoos, which can strip the hair of natural oils and cause dryness and breakage. Use a mild, sulfate-free shampoo to avoid further damage to your hair.
4. Protect your hair while sleeping: Use a satin or silk pillowcase and wrap your hair in a satin or silk scarf before bed to help prevent friction and breakage.
5. Take a hair supplement: Black hair is often deficient in certain vitamins and minerals, such as biotin and iron, which can contribute to hair loss. Taking a hair supplement that includes these nutrients can promote healthy hair growth.
6. Lactation and diet: Black women who are lactating need to take special care of their diet to ensure they are getting the right nutrients for their hair. Foods that are rich in iron, Omega 3, Vitamin D, and other nutrients that are oftentimes depleted during lactation can help slow hair loss and boost hair growth.
